Maybe you’ve been wanting to start doing crafts, but aren’t sure what you want to do.  You have so many choices you’re feeling a little lost for what to do.  You don’t want to spend a ton of money and don’t want to take months or years to have something you’d be proud to show somebody.  Take a look at doing crafts with rubber stamps.  It’s easy to start and doesn’t have to be expensive.  You could be stamping in a matter of hours.  You don’t even have to be a creative genius.  Just being able to ink a stamp and put it to paper works great.

So what kind of things can you do with rubber stamps?  One of the most popular is creating cards.  What better way to show you care than a hand-made birthday or greeting card.  Most people would love to get something that you made especially for them, and they don’t know you whipped it up in a few hours.  All you really need is paper or cardstock, in as many colors of ink as you feel like using, and a stamp.  The stamps you start with don’t have to be complicated.  Even just a stamp of a cat for a cat lover or a birthday cake can be more than enough.  You don’t have to get fancy or pack the card with images.  Simple is often better.

Scrapbooking folks sometimes use stamps to decorate their work.  Adding little embellishments to your family photos gives a real feeling of warmth that just a basic sheet of pictures can’t.  You can stamp directly onto the paper you attach your photos to, but you’ll have more control if you don’t.  Stamp on a separate sheet of paper, cut to size, and glue it to the page.  Doing it this way keeps mistakes from being permanent.

If you do stamp something you don’t like, don’t throw it out.  You may be able to use it in another project and it’ll look just fine.  Don’t try for perfection here, your friends and family might not notice a “mistake” you think screams out at you.  They will probably think those little imperfections add a sense of “hominess” to your work they just might love.  Remember, you will get better with practice, so ease up on yourself and have fun.  Give it a try, you may be surprised how quickly you become a stamp master. Remeber, if you do make some cool stamps you can always make a bit of money out of them and sell art online. There are some really cool websites out there that offer these services so have a look around and see what you can find.
